Obtaining an NIE

The NIE number is a tax identification number in Spain, known in Spanish as the Número de Identidad de Extranjero. Spanish law 2393/2004 requires an NIE for the purchase or sale of property in Spain, as well as for cars and boats, or to work or study. All people who live in Spain will have an NIE number. The NIE number is issued by the Spanish National Police, and we can assist you in obtaining an NIE number. If you are going to buy a property as partners, both partners will require an NIE in their own names.

Your registration on the Padrón

Your registration on the Padrón (the Municipal Register of Inhabitants) is essential if you wish to import your car into Spain or use Spanish public services such as education or the Spanish healthcare system. The Padrón is a list of all people living in a property, in a town or within a local area, and it helps the government authorities responsible for public spending determine how much funding should be allocated to local services. Registration on the Padrón is a legal requirement for people living in Spain.

Obtaining residency

If you are planning to live permanently in Spain you must apply for residency. Your presence in the country will then be legal, and you will also have almost the same rights as a Spanish citizen.
