Coronavirus on the Costa Blanca, the latest facts and information

Alicante province registers 22 positive COVID-19 infections and zero deaths

We know that there are many people worried about the current coronavirus pandemic, and want to know what things are like here in Spain.

We thought it might be best to explain what´s going on from the perspective of those of us who live and work here and deliver just the facts that we can see around us.

The coronavirus 2019 pandemic is an ongoing and fluid situation and things can change very quickly, but right now business in our part of the South Costa Blanca is continuing very much as usual with just a few exceptions.

The vast majority of local shops, restaurants, and bars are open as usual. Some Asian operated businesses have chosen to close their doors, but these are exceptional circumstances for everyone.

Nationwide, Spain has 3,095 confirmed cases of patients that have tested positive for COVID-19 and 86 people have tragically lost their lives to the disease.

The vast majority of those with a positive diagnosis for coronavirus are located in the Spanish capital city of Madrid or central Northern provinces such as Burgos and La Rioja.

The first positive case of coronavirus in the Vega Baja occurred eight days ago on Wednesday 4th March, and as of right now (19:27, 12th March 2020), just 22 people have been diagnosed with the virus in the entire Alicante Province - home to a population of 1.8 million residents. To date, no lives have been lost to the disease in our province.

Orihuela has registered one incident of COVID-19 infection, and the University Hospital of Torrevieja had a suspected coronavirus diagnosis on 20th January that subsequently proved negative upon testing. Since then the hospital has detected zero cases of coronavirus infection.

Alicante-Elche International Airport and the Internacional Región de Murcia Airport in Corvera continue to operate scheduled flights to all European destinations except for Italy.

Of course, we all have our part to play in stopping the transmission of coronavirus, and some large events and scheduled public gatherings have been cancelled or postponed.

We´re operating as usual and providing the first-class service that our clients expect from us, and with temperatures expected to exceed 30°c today, Spain is still a wonderful place to be.

We hope that in time things will get back to normal for everyone.
