Costa Blanca Golf
The Costa Blanca Golf Guide, the best courses in Spain
The beautiful Spanish weather, and long dry summers, provide the ideal environment for golf in Spain, quite unlike anywhere else.
The south Costa Blanca in particular boasts no less than eight exquisitely designed courses, all suited to players of any golf handicap.
With excellent value offered in Spain, a game of golf here isn't just great value, it's something you can afford to enjoy every day.
Four of the local golf courses appear within Golf World's current Top 100 list of the best Spanish golf courses, while Las Colinas Golf and Country Club enjoys the privilege of acknowledgement on Golf World's list of the best courses in continental Europe.
And that's quite some achievement considering that there are 349 golf courses in Spain with an estimated 300.000 registered members.
The South Costa Blanca's 18-hole Championship golf courses offer wide fairways, perfectly manicured greens, and challenging layouts, and all clubs are within easy driving distance - accessible in just 30 minutes.
In fact, three courses on the Orihuela Costa are located immediately adjacent to each other. Campo de Golf Villamartin, Real Club de Golf Campoamor Resort, and Las Ramblas Golf de Campoamor are just 8 minutes away from La Zenia by car.
The low season for golf in Spain runs from June through to September annually, and with local courses keen to attract paying players, there's often a bargain to be had when it comes to green fees during the summer months.
Las Colinas Golf
San Miguel de Salinas
The only south Costa Blanca golf course to feature in Golf World's Top 100 list of continental European courses, the club's continued investments into the course saw Las Colinas soar up the Spanish national rankings to 20th this year, climbing the list twenty-one places.
Managed by the American Scottsdale-based golf services corporation, Troon Golf, the
18-hole course has garnered favourable reviews from experienced and professional golfers alike. With the right mix of challenging holes and strategically placed breathers, it's a modern classic that offers thrills for golfers of all competencies.
Las Ramblas Golf
Campoamor, Orihuela Costa
Although not particularly long, the rugged landscape and beautiful trees make the game more enjoyable. The golf course is blended seamlessly into a beautiful landscape of Mediterranean pines and natural ravines, with large and generous greens featuring a combination of fast and gentle slopes.
Dedicated golfing facilities include a private clubhouse; a veritable architectural tour de force in its own right. The on-site restaurant serves an impressive menu in an equally impressive dining room with beautiful views, and no doubt contributes to earning 75th place in Golf World's Top 100 list of Spanish golf courses.
Golf Campoamor Resort
Villacosta, Orihuela Costa
One of the most established Costa Blanca golf courses originally opened nearly thirty years ago, Real Club de Golf Campoamor Resort is consistently popular with all handicaps, and abundant first-class facilities ensure that the course maintains its enviable local reputation.
The course emerges from the wild beauty of Dehesa de Campoamor between two valleys surrounded by small hills that protect it from the wind, and which generate a microclimate that enables practical play any time of year. With a 6.277m round and par 72, the player enjoys a course whose neatly manicured lawns are only enhanced by the lush vegetation and fauna.
Lo Romero Golf
Pilar de la Horadada
Officially opening in January 2008 and designed by Jorge Gallén, this relative newcomer to the Costa Blanca golf circuit spent a full 2 years maturing before being declared ready for public play by its meticulous owners.
The signature hole at Lo Romero has to be the final 18th. Driven off from the top of the hill leaving a short iron into the island green. A challenge to master for novices and professionals alike, but no less enjoyable for it. Popular all year round - in and out of season.
La Marquesa Golf
Ciudad Quesada
Popular with novice and professional golfers all season, the club is home to several household Spanish names including legendary golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez. The course enjoys low annual rainfall and a long Summer season.
The open layout is an easy walk with minimal traffic interference with the course, and whilst a buggy is available it is not necessary for most able-bodied players. A car is recommended to enjoy everything the local area has to offer.
La Finca Golf Resort
Algorfa, Costa Blanca
With its generous fairways and an incredible variety of greens, La Finca Golf Club is every golfer's dream. The championship course has been designed for tournaments from inception and provides challenges for golfers of all handicaps.
Relatively young in years but developed enough to test the best golfers while still being eminently playable for the beginner, the long 6.500-yard course features plenty of water, so a good supply of golf balls is recommended.
Campo de Golf Villamartin
Villamartin
Like a fine Spanish Rioja, Campo de Golf Villamartin is well-aged and tastefully mature. Originally established in 1972, this beautiful course has been entertaining golfers from all over the world for more than 40 years.
The course provides a circuit for players of all skill levels to enjoy since it requires the use of every club in the bag. The greens are wonderfully designed and have attracted very important tournaments over the years.
Vistabella Golf
Entre Naranjos
Moderately off the beaten track, the Vistabella golf course is well worth going out of your way. This young course packs in a wide range of tees to suit every player, broad fairways, challenging bunkers, and greens.
Vistabella Golf is well-served by additional facilities and boasts a clubhouse with an international dining menu and stunning vistas of the surrounding countryside from its relaxing outdoor terraces.
