Transformed: a traditional Spanish villa renovated into a modern luxury home
THERE CAN BE LITTLE DOUBT that this villa in Torrevieja is truly beautiful. It's clean modern lines, it's clever use of space and differing textures, and the trademark bright white paintwork - it´s what Mediterranean dreams are made of. But it wasn't always this way.
We had the pleasure of selling this villa located in the popular city suburb of Torreta Florida five years ago in 2013. The new owners were impressed with the generous near half-acre plot size and the central location within walking distance of essential local amenities, whilst also in close proximity to the vibrant pink salt lake that the city is rightly famous for.
But back in 2013 the property was in need of a little love and attention. The property was still beautiful of course, but gentle aesthetic renovation and a little modernisation would have enhanced the home adequately.
Instead, the new owners decided that a substantial remodelling was in order, and with a vision to create a home full of space and light they began a passionate crusade to change the traditional villa into a spectacular luxury home that would impress with simplicity and beauty.
Just as their vision was completely different to the villa´s then current form, so too was their approach to the renovation and building works.
Rather than taking immediately to the sledgehammer, they decided to repurpose and preserve where possible, poring over each and every aspect of the redesign to ensure that if something could be polished rather than replaced, it was done.
And it was done with great care and forethought to provide a modern luxury home that not just preserved, but enhanced the traditional Spanish character of the property, in an ecologically respectful manner.
Declutter: the first rule of successful property renovation
Removing the decorative arches and balustrades increased the space around the large 10m x 7m feature swimming pool and revealed the clean lines of that beautiful classical Spanish facade.
The front garden: using textures to define spaces
Such a large plot has it´s downsides, and the new owners used different materials and textures to segregate areas, with a lawned area for sunbathing, and tiles with a high quality and natural look.
Simplify: sometimes less is more
This simple transformation is nothing less than spectacular, and the basic application of white paint instead of the brown stained wood breathes new contemporary life into an old design.
Chic: remodelling to add space
The ample space is now the perfect place for entertaining, with an elegant and chic home bar replacing the open summer kitchen. And the cost? A bucket of white paint!
Let there be light: and let it be white
The new owners removed the walls and extended the summer kitchen area, and continued the simplistic colour scheme throughout the entire property, including the sunroom to the rear.
Repurposed: a cutting-edge summer kitchen
The summer kitchen has been extended and refitted using older units from the kitchen that were removed from one of the kitchens in the villa, a clever reuse of fittings with minimal expense.
The central feature pool
There didn't seem to be much point spending money replacing such a gorgeous pool, but within it's remodelled surroundings it looks so much more inviting.
Simplify, simplify, simplify
The new coat of paint, a feature tiled wall, and the removal of wood from the ceiling but adding a quality finish to the floor works wonders for the main living room area.
The creation of space
The expansive open living space is clean, modern, and highly impressive. Some walls needed to be moved to accommodate the new living area and a good deal of work was required.
The kitchen: modern and contemporary
The older kitchen has made way for a super-modern open plan island kitchen that is both beautiful and practical. And with beautiful views to the garden and pool, washing up becomes a pleasure.
The dining room: a better place to be
Another room to receive home improvements (and movement) was the dining room. The closed space has been moved in to the central living room with those same super views of the garden.
Despite the changes, the property still offers the full 4 double bedrooms it did beforehand, but each receiving an update to enhance the quality of the furnishings and decor.
A master bedroom to be proud of
The layout of the older master bedroom was less than ideal, but the room has been transformed with an en-suite fully fitted bathroom and a separate walk-in dressing room.
The master en-suite bathroom
There probably was little use for this room before, but the new en-suite bathroom is super modern with his-and-hers sink unit, a shower, and a sculpted corner bath.
The family bathroom
The dark grey has given way to modern fitted units in the main family bathroom. The use of quality tiling and modern fixtures and fittings transform this space into something special.
A new covered terrace area
When the old terraced area was removed the new owners made good use of the existing arches to add a structural extended roof providing an additional spacious covered terrace.

The end result is a stunning luxury property that offers high quality accommodation, retains the lovable authentic Spanish character features, and combines them with modern chic styling.
