Travelling to Spain, getting the best price for your flights
With an early Easter weekend this year, the thoughts of many sun-seekers are turning to warmer climates after enduring a long winter. But according to data recently published by popular flight booking website Skyscanner, a staggering 86% of traveller's don´t know the best time to book their flights.
Spain, already tipped to be the first choice of holiday destination in 2016, recorded a staggering 68.1 million visitors last year. Political and civil unrest in usually popular North African destinations have encouraged more visitors to choose Spain for their holidays, drawn by its natural beauty, culture, accessibility, and fabulous weather.
Just two weeks ago, British travel trade association ABTA released a public statement advising potential travellers to book their flights and holidays early, after preliminary booking figures for January showed a 27% increase in the number of holidays being booked to Spanish destinations from the UK.
With more demand for flights to Spain, it´s more important than ever to secure the flights you want at a bargain price; whether you´re visiting for a holiday, visiting friends, or you´re lucky enough to own a property in Spain. Skyscanner crunched the numbers and analysed millions of bookings to discover just how far ahead you need to book your flights to Spain.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, flights to Alicante in Spain were at their cheapest in January, whilst the most expensive month to travel to Spain remains August. Skyscanner´s research revealed that booking your flights 5 weeks prior to the departure date offered the best economy, saving 10% over the average scheduled flight price.
Local airport San Javier in Murcia illustrated a similar picture with August the most unprofitable month to travel, and April the cheapest month to book a flight. You might be surprised how much you can save just by flying out a day earlier" she stated.
