Costa Blanca Easter Parades 2016

Join in the Easter celebrations in Spain

Today marks the start of the Easter bank holiday, a time of celebration in Spain. There are hundreds of local celebrations across Spain and numerous parades throughout the entire South Costa Blanca community, each one of them a cultural spectacle in their own right.

In Torrevieja, the Good Friday (Viernes Santo) parade, known as the Holy Procession of the Brotherhoods, is one of the most spectacular in the area and departs the Plaza de la Constitución at 8:00 pm.

On Easter Sunday (Domingo de Pascua) the early morning Hallelujah Procession and the Procession with the Brotherhood San Juan Evangelista leaves Plaza de la Constitución at 8:00 am.

The city of Elche has many parades throughout the celebration of Semana Santa (Holy Week), with the Silent Procession of the Brotherhood Cofradia Santisimo Cristo de la Misericordia starting at 11:00 pm this evening.

Good Friday sees the Big Parade of All the Brotherhoods, with each brotherhood departing the Placa Baix, the plaza in front of the town hall, from 5:45 pm every 15 minutes until 9:15 pm.

On Easter Sunday two large processions start at 10:00 am and converge upon Calle Renia Victoria at the junction with Calle Jorge Juan at about 11:30 am where it becomes a joyful event, and millions of hallelujahs, coloured holy cards, are thrown from nearby balconies.

With the weather looking fabulous all weekend and temperatures set to reach 25c degrees, this is your opportunity to enjoy some traditional Spanish culture and celebrate Easter in Spain.
