Costa Blanca beaches retain Blue Flag awards

Eight Orihuela Costa beaches have renewed their FEE Blue Flag awards, ensuring the municipality leads the Valencian Community in terms of cleanliness, safety, and environmental responsibility.

In Spain, the Blue Flag awards are granted by the Environmental Education and Consumers Association (ADEAC), and for the 2016 season Punta Prima, Cala Flamenca, Cala Bosque (La Zenia), La Caleta (Cabo Roig), Cala Capitán (Cabo Roig), Aguamarina, La Glea, and Barranco Rubio beaches have all once again proven that they are worthy of recognition.

The FEE has just published the 2016 list of the very best beaches, with Spain awarded an outstanding 692 accolades in total. Locally, there were two additional Blue Flag commendations for high quality for the ports of Marina Cabo Roig and Club Naútico, Dehesa de Campoamor.

Councillor Sofia Álvarez noted that to obtain the Blue Flag the ADEAC take a combination of criteria into consideration like the quality of the water for swimming, information and environmental education, accessibility, services and the quality of installations.

She praised the work of the whole beaches department and assured the public that they work hard all year round to keep the Costa Blanca coast clean and of the highest possible quality.
